Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I consider concrete versus other flooring solutions?
Concrete is Versatile, strong, durable, easy to maintain AND affordable.  Durability is probably the number one reason people use concrete.  The strength of concrete is 4,000 lbs per square inch and with today’s admixtures you can even reach strengths of up to 16,000 lbs per square inch. That's like having a parking pad for a jumbo jet in your backyard.  Decorative concrete is easily maintained and is also very affordable and comes in all sorts of colors and stains.

What are the major benefits of using Decorative Concrete?

Here are just a few of the reasons to consider:Concrete is easy to maintain

  • Concrete helps to will rid environments of dust mites, mold, and allergy or asthma causing particles.
  • Concrete staining and engraving will enhance surroundings
  • Concrete will increase property values
  • Concrete flooring can help reduce energy bills because it is slow to heat and cool

Is Decorative Concrete difficult to maintain?
Proper maintenance and upkeep is imperative with concrete. Cleaning and sealing stamped and colored concrete should be done on a regular basis just like any other floor maintenance. The frequency will depend on the amount of traffic an area gets from cars, people, pets, and water, as well as any chemicals to which the concrete is exposed.

Why use Decorative Concrete versus real bricks, tile, stone, etc?
Many homebuilders turn to decorative concrete as an inexpensive alternative to mimic the look of natural stone such as marble, granite or cobblestone. Not only is natural stone itself expensive, it's costly to ship, costly to install and has a negative ecological impact. Add to that the difficulties of matching a particular color to other materials and there's an increased potential for construction delays.

What is the difference between stamped concrete and a decorative concrete overlay?

A decorative concrete overlay is a highly durable thinset layer of hybrid polymer concrete that overlays an
existing patio, floor, foyer, driveway, sidewalk, etc.  Stamped concrete is a completely new pour of
concrete where a pattern is stamped into the concrete.

What if I have an existing crack in my concrete surface already?

MR Decorative Concrete has various ways of repairing and restoring concrete surfaces and structures for
pool decks, patios, driveways, garage floors, as well as heavy-duty industrial applications for warehouse
floors and parking garages.

How does the cost of using Decorative Concrete compare to real tile, bricks or stone?

Decorative Concrete stamped tile appearance in a decorative overlay costs $7-9 per square foot.  In
comparison, tile and other type bricks, stone normally costs $12-15 per square foot----a 30-40% savings
to YOU.

What about maintenance of Decorative Concrete?

Cleaning and sealing stamped and colored concrete should be done on a regular basis just like any other
floor maintenance. The frequency will depend on the amount of traffic an area gets from cars, people, pets,
and water, as well as any chemicals to which the concrete is exposed.  Proper maintenance and upkeep is
imperative with concrete.  For interior floors, use mats at the outside and inside entrance and dust mopping
is an easy quick way to clean your floor.  Exterior decorative concrete applications should be resealed from
time to time.
